• Ecover Says Goodbye To Summer With Safety Tips For a Fun Labor Day Weekend!

    Sep 05, 2011 | By Deb

As summer comes to a close and we look toward school days and that pleasant September weather, there’s one last bit of fun to be had … on Labor Day weekend! From picnics to beach parties, gatherings on the “last official weekend of summer” are being planned all over the U.S., and Ecover is here with some thoughts on how to make Labor Day 2011 safe and successful!

When it comes to Labor Day food, grilling is the traditional choice and whether it’s a marinated flank steak or some modern veggie burgers, proper food safety is always a must! Be sure to keep meats cold until ready to use and don’t forget to use different (or cleaned) platters and utensils for raw meat vs. cooked meats. Harmful bacteria present in raw meat and poultry juices can contaminate safely cooked food.

In addition, keep your loved ones safe on this holiday by driving with vigilance and practicing good water safety. The roadways and bodies of water can be dangerous when crowded and people are distracted, particularly on holidays. In fact, a recent study found that Labor Day and the days surrounding it are the leading holiday for children’s injuries!

Labor Day’s tribute to the contributions that workers make to the strength and prosperity of our country began in New York City with a parade in 1882, and was made a national holiday in 1894.  Perhaps this year, in addition to safely grilling, swimming and sharing time with friends, we all might take a moment to thank those who work so hard to make America great. Ecover salutes all hard-working laborers and wishes you all a much-deserved day of rest on Labor Day! Be safe, and enjoy!
