• Ecover Loves Penelope Cruz’s Commitment To Sustainable Glamour

The red carpet seems to be getting a little greener with each awards season thanks to actresses like Penelope Cruz! With her penchant for vintage dresses and a strong commitment to hybrid cars, this Oscar winner is helping to define a new era of eco-glamour that Ecover thinks is truly exciting. After all, with many of us looking to celebrities for style cues, it’s encouraging to see so many of them demonstrating that sustainability is chic!

Although Penelope did not go “vintage” for this year’s Academy Awards, she has hit the red carpet in recycled garments from an earlier era. She won raves for the stunning white beaded vintage Pierre Balmain gown that she wore to the 2009 Academy Awards show. Some have even suggested that the dress brought good luck, since she won the Oscar for best supporting actress that year for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. As we’ve mentioned though, three- time winning Oscar legend Meryl Streep chose a glittery gold Lanvin dress this year, made from eco-friendly fabric.

As for helping to limit the carbon impact of red carpet transportation – which typically entails gas-guzzling limos or SUVs – Penelope has worked with Global Green USA along with stars Orlando Bloom and Leonardo DiCaprio,  convincing celebs to choose hybrid cars for getting to and from awards shows and other big events.  She told the UK Times: “I think it is very good for all of us to have a hybrid car. It is too selfish to have something that uses too much fuel or makes a mess of the atmosphere. I like cars. I enjoy their speed and their power, but I do not want to be trapped by them anymore.” Way to go Penelope – driving smartly to the future!
